The cohesion of our society – and of Europe – matters more than ever. But how do we protect democracy and fundamental rights when the tone grows harsher and divisions deepen? For twelve years, Prof. Dr. mult. Susanne Baer served as a judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, the guardian of our fundamental rights. In her book “Rote Linien” (Red Lines) she offers a personal insight into those years, recounting controversial rulings and the question of what holds a free society together at its core. A conversation with Michael Steinke, chair of the Heidelberg Youth Council, follows – a dialogue between experience and the next generation. An event by the association “Kultur für Europa – Kulturhauptstadt Heidelberg” and the Emmertsgrund cultural summer.
